![]() The following guide is spoiler-light you can read it without fear of any major plot revelations. This guide is here to help you do exactly that. ![]() So, when it comes to your playthrough, you’ll probably have to plan and prioritize if you want to get the most out living in Yongen-Jaya. Futaba - Basically all upside for her, other than the pain and discomfort she has to face. There are a lot of relationships to pursue in Persona 5, more than one teen can reasonably attend to in a single school year.Managed to get out of an awful arranged marriage with the phantom thieves' help. Haru - I mean, she's pretty much set for life no matter what.Yusuke - Superficially he has a lot to lose as well, but as we find out any success he manages to attain will be stolen by his teacher. ![]() The modelling as well, she's good at it because she's naturally beautiful, but it doesn't jive with how she wants to live her life.) Anne - Can maybe achieve some tenuous success, but must essentially eliminate her own personality and allow herself to be a vessel for others desires to get there.MC - Already a criminal and kicked out of his home, probably not a lot of prospects in life.Compare that to the rest of the cast (SPOILERS AHEAD): However, she throws that away for her friends and her ideals. Makoto has completely come up in the reality of this system, and is one of the very few who is set to succeed by playing the game, being at the top of her class, having the right connections, and having the vision and grit to accomplish her goals. Either you play the game, or you get crushed beneath its rules. The game is all about the rotten, sclerotic system that governs Japanese society. Makoto has the most to lose, and is the best exemplar of the games main themes. In comparison, Akechi is used really well throughout both the base game and Royal.) I know it was intentional to not alter the base game too much, but her presence feels uneven considering she's less story relevant until the very end of the game. Regarding Kasumi, I wish they'd integrated her throughout the game better in Royal. At least both Haru and Futaba had great social links, Ann's was awful, and Makoto's was a bland. It kinda peters out, which is disappointing. I think Futaba could have been utilized better, too - she's a character that gets a solid screentime due to being a hacker+Navi, but I was hoping the subplot with her mother/Akechi/Shido would have been explored in more depth than it did. (*Regarding the female members of the PT: It's a shame Ann drops off a lot in importance after such a memorable introduction with the first dungeon. ![]() Futaba and Joker also spend a lot of time together, regardless of whether she's romanced or not. ![]() That being said, Ann also has a lot of scenes like that at the beginning of the game and the final cutscene of the base game. I romanced Makoto, so there were scenes were I wasn't sure if Joker and Makoto were having a unique moment because I'd romanced her, or because it was a basic canonical interaction regardless of whether she was romanced or not. As Paragon said below, I guess it's a cause and effect of having a silent/semi-blank slate protagonist, and needing someone else to drive the plot. She's also very good at getting things done and organizing, to the point that there were so many moments where I was genuinely baffled that Joker was still the leader of the Phantom Thieves because Makoto was the one who was actually being proactive, Joker just reacted to things. Along with Morgana, Makoto definitely definitely one of the party members that stays most story relevant* throughout, especially because of Sae and Akechi. ![]()
